Jetstar plane suffers steering issue, ends up in grass at NZ airport
A Jetstar plane encountered a steering issue while landing at Christchurch Airport today, ending up in the grass.
A Jetstar plane encountered a “steering issue” while landing at Christchurch Airport today, ending up in the grass.
Flight JQ225 had just touched down when it “swerved wildly” and came off the runway, passenger Diana Clement told the NZ Herald.
A spokesperson for Jetstar told news.com.au the incident was caused by a steering issue.
After landing in Christchurch, the aircraft experienced a steering issue, causing it to veer on the runway at low speed and on to the grass before returning to the runway,” the spokesperson said.
“There are no injuries to passengers or crew. The aircraft was towed to the gate and all passengers have disembarked.”
Emergency services were notified of the incident at about 7.45am which involved six trucks, one ladder unit and a command unit.

According to data on Flightradar24.com, the plane can be seen veering to the right on landing, off the runway and on to grass.
As a result, the airport runway has been closed and several flights have been delayed.
According to the NZ Herald, passengers remained stuck inside the aircraft for at least an hour after the plane originally landed.
Ms Clement, a Herald columnist, told the publication she was a bit shaken, but no one on-board was injured.
“We had a hydraulic leak on the right and the plane left the runway,” she said.
“We are surrounded by fire trucks.”
Another passenger commended the efforts of Jetstar crew, adding that no one panicked and the “air stewards were really great”.
“We’re thankful everyone is safe and for the quick actions of our pilot,” Jessie Singh said.
The flight was heading into Christchurch from Auckland.
