A holiday rental homeowner in the UK has been left “traumatised” after guests caused $A10,000 worth of damage to her Harry Potter-themed accommodation.

According to local media, the property owner — who only wanted to be known by her first name of Sadie — said her rental had been booked for a one-night stay for two adults through Booking.com.

But after the stay was complete, Sadie claims the property had been left in a horrendous state. Some of the biggest areas of damage included the mattress on the bed stained with cocoa and coffee, a sofa bed broken and the apartment’s TV destroyed.

Sadie said the bedding had been soaked with water, and the walls, blinds, carpets and radiators covered in orange soft drink.

She said her apartment — which was decked out in a Harry Potter theme — never thought damage of this extent would happen to a property she owned.

“It has been extremely difficult for us to deal with,” she said.

“Both my brother and I are traumatised by the whole thing. We’ve had the rental open nearly a year and only ever hosted nice family guests.

“It’s difficult to see someone violate the space in this way.”

Sadie went on to explain how the Harry Potter mugs and glasses were “on the floor smashed into pieces” and that she’s been forced to close down the rental until further notice.

“We have never had anyone do this,” she said.

“This was made for families and children. Now we have had to close it down until it is safe.”

In a statement shared with news.com.au, Booking.com - where the couple who allegedly trashed the property booked through - said they “do not tolerate destructive behaviour” and are “sorry to hear about any damage caused to the property”.

“We do not tolerate destructive behaviour and we are sorry to hear about any damage caused to the property,” the statement read.

“Regarding this case, the partner has not yet reported guest misconduct or reached out to our customer services team. We encourage the partner to do so to enable us to thoroughly investigate, co-operate with local authorities or law enforcement and if necessary, block the responsible customer from our platform.”
