Hefty fine over woman’s sneaky move to get cigarettes in hotel quarantine
Police have slapped a woman with a hefty fine over a sneaky move she made while in hotel quarantine.
A woman in hotel quarantine has been fined after resorting to a bizarre tactic to get cigarettes delivered to her Gold Coast room.
Police confirmed a fine had been issued after a drone was spotted delivering a packet of cigarettes to the woman’s balcony on July 11.
A staff member noticed the stunt before informing police.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the woman, 44, was issued a $1334 fine for failing to comply with a Covid-19 direction.
She said investigations into the origin of the drone were ongoing.
A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority said it was reviewing a potential breach of aviation laws but it was too early to determine if any breach had occurred.
