Fiji nightclub where Virgin crew partied before alleged attack denies involvement
The nightclub Virgin Australia crew had been celebrating NYE at before they were allegedly attacked has denied the incident took place anywhere near the venue.
The bar where a crew of Australian flight attendants were partying before one was allegedly assaulted and another allegedly raped has claimed it’s the victim of ‘negative portrayal’.
In a Facebook post, the Bar One nightclub in Fiji said it’s “important to clarify that this incident did not take place within Bar One, nor in the immediate vicinity of our establishment.”
“The Virgin Airlines Crew are regular customers at Bar One and we have never experienced any similar incidents in the past, so it is disheartening to see our establishment portrayed in a negative light due to circumstances that is not directly related to our Bar,” the statement added.
The post concluded by asking “loyal customers” to share the statement to “encourage others to inform the media as well”.
It comes after authorities in Fiji arrested a man for the alleged assault on New Year’s Day.
The Virgin crew members had been enjoying an Afro-Carribean themed night at Bar One just 20 minutes from Fiji’s international airport on New Year’s Eve, with the incident alleged to have taken place in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
It has been alleged a 21-year old woman was allegedly assaulted on the way back to her hotel and another crew member was robbed and received facial injuries in a separate incident following the celebrations.
The man in custody is due to appear in Fiji’s Western Division court on Monday.
Earlier this week, Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka said in a statement the alleged incidents were regrettable.
“Regrettably, incidents like this can happen anywhere, and Fiji is not immune. We, as always, remind tourists to exercise caution in nightclub areas and late at night.”
It’s understood the Virgin crew members have since left the country.
