The family of a 23-year-old man who died suddenly in Bali this week has spoken publicly about their frantic search for answers.
Noosa man Byron Haddow’s death has been described by his family as “suspicious”.
Mother Chantal Haddow claimed to the public it “wasn’t a scooter accident” and that it wasn’t his first trip to the holiday hotspot.
“We are still chasing answers as to how our fit, healthy 23-year-old son wound up dead in his private villa,” she wrote on social media.
“No it wasn’t a scooter accident! No it wasn’t his first time in Bali either!”
The family is pursuing a formal investigation, which has delayed both the repatriation of Byron’s body and access to associated funds.
“I want answers more than anyone,” Ms Haddow said.
Ms Haddow thanked the community support following Byron’s death. A GoFundMe campaign set up by friends has raised more than $31,000 to assist with funeral and travel costs.
“All donations have been made by family and friends of Byron which goes to show how truly loved he was,” she said.
Byron’s father, Robert Haddow, said the family were still coming to terms with their son’s shocking passing.
“Chantal, myself and family are not sure where to look, think, and how to deal with this atm. Please understand,” he said.
Byron had visited Bali several times and shared frequent updates from the region, including just days before his death.
His TikTok account showed his work in the FIFO mining industry and had drawn millions of views.
His aunt, Rebecca Haddow Pohlner, confirmed he had travel insurance but said the process to access any support could take up to two months.
“Yes, he did have travel insurance, but... they will find any loophole they can,” she said.
“We just want him home.”
A spokesperson from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said consular support is being provided.
“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” the spokesperson told News Corp.
