Family breaks silence after teen killed in horror stabbing in Thailand
The 14-year-old, from Perth, was walking home when he was allegedly attacked by another student.
The family of Perth teen who was killed in a shocking knife attack in Thailand have paid tribute to their “white knight”.
Lucky Fazzalari, 14, was allegedly stabbed to death by another student from his school about 100m from his home on Tuesday night after a brief altercation between the two boys.
His devastated family spoke with NewsWire to pay tribute to Lucky as they prepare to say goodbye to their much-loved family member during a cremation ceremony on Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of his family, his cousin Bertrand Licour told NewsWire the family were deeply saddened by Lucky’s death.
Lucky went to live with Mr Bertrand and his wife for 12 months when he first moved to Thailand from Perth.
He recalled how he first met Lucky over daily video calls then came to be like his uncle when he lived with his wife and daughters before the young teen lived with his mother.
Now the family are preparing to say goodbye to Lucky after five days of ceremonies at a Thai temple.
“This is a hard moment because there is a lot of responsibility in front of all this, there are a lot of shared feelings and different feelings,” he said.
“Most of us just hope that we will wake up from this nightmare.”
Mr Licour said a lot of people had supported the family following Lucky’s death recalling how he was a good guy.
“The white knight in the school,” he said.
“He used to help people when they had an issue and defended the weaker kids, but it will not bring him back.
“The good thing is Lucky had a lot of loving people in his life, family and friends, so we are not alone.
“We have a big group of people who are constantly together, so we can still have some smiles in this bad moment.”
Mr Licour said when Lucky went to live in Thailand they put him into a good private school in their quiet town because he was “a clever guy with lots of potential.”
“We are in the countryside, it is amazingly quiet, and this happened in this environment, that is why this is an unbelievable amazing situation,” he said.
Lucky loved playing team sports and had been a champion long distance runner at his school in Perth.
In Thailand, the teen played soccer and basketball and would shoot hoops whenever he had free time.
“He was a very active kid and played games on his telephone, but his main activity was sport and he really loved collective sports,” he said.
“He was a very social guy, always laughing and smiling.
“He was full of love and positive, and was like a big brother to my kids.”
How tragedy unfolded
Lucky was allegedly attacked by the student at the front entrance of the Muntra Garden Home in Chonburi on Tuesday, December 10.
CCTV footage shows the pair coming to blows in a shadowy yard in the estate.
After a brief scuffle, Lucky stands up to walk home before the suspect allegedly stabbed him in the back.
He collapsed on the steps of the nearby shop, where he died before medics could arrive.
