THE family of accused drug smuggler Cassie Sainsbury have touched down in Bogota, Colombia, exactly one month after the South Australian woman was arrested.

Ms Sainsbury’s mother Lisa Evans and sister Khala Sainsbury passed through Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport late Thursday morning, Colombian time.

They raced past the waiting media without comment.

Ms Sainsbury’s mother and sister arrived just hours after a crew from 60 Minutes, which included reporter Liam Bartlett.

The crew had a hiccup when they made it to Bogota, with their bags containing camera gear going missing, according to News Corp.

The Channel 9 current affairs program has inked a lucrative deal with the family for a tell-all interview. It is understood Nine paid for the family’s flight from Adelaide.

Ms Sainsbury was arrested on April 11 at El Dorado airport, accused of trying to smuggle 5.8 kilograms of cocaine inside 18 headphone boxes in her suitcase.

She and her family say she is innocent of the charges.

Her family is expected to visit her at El Buen Pastor women’s prison in Bogota, where she has been behind bars since her arrest.

Ms Sainsbury was seen for the first time earlier this week when she appeared on a balcony inside the jail.

Her fellow inmate held up a sign to the media that read “Cassandra pide libertad immediata”, which means “Cassandra asks freedom immediately” in English.

It is not known when they will be able to gain entry into the prison to visit her.
