A two-year-old boy was tragically mauled to death by a pit bull just 10 days after his birthday.

A picture has emerged showing the aggressive dog that attacked the toddler in a harrowing incident in Zante, Greece.

The boy had returned from shopping with his dad and British mum when the tragedy took place.

He is said to have escaped the attention of his parents and entered the room where the dog was chained.

But the pit bull attacked him and bit him in the face and head.

The boy was left with fatal injuries.

The minor was taken to the General Hospital of Zakynthos, where he was given first aid.

He tragically died despite the doctors’ efforts.

His parents were arrested and have now been charged with manslaughter.

An investigative source told The Sun: “An inquiry is underway. The toddler was in the home’s courtyard playing when he was attacked.”

“It appears that while the pit bull was chained to the wall the boy got very close to him and the dog immediately pounced.”

Just 10 days ago on November 27, the boy celebrated his second birthday with his family, according to Protothema.

Authorities revealed the dog was a stray and was found next to their house about two months ago.

The family collected it to take care of it until a foster home could be found for adoption.

The dog was one of the many that the parents kept in their home and in the shelter they maintain right across the street.

It comes after a grandpa and his three-month-old granddaughter were tragically found dead after allegedly being mauled by a pack of deadly pit bulls.

Police were forced to gun down the seven dogs after they attacked 50-year-old James Alexander Smith and the baby in their Tennessee home.

They rushed to the scene to find Smith’s lifeless body inside the house, while the infant was still being mauled by the family’s pack of dogs.

She tragically died by the time cops fought their way to her.

Neighbour Rebecca Adams said the newborn’s heartbroken mother was screaming “my baby” as authorities broke into the house to save the victims.

She said the pitbulls constantly broke loose from the yard and went after other neighbourhood pets – terrorising the whole area.
