Joshua was a passenger on a bike that was being driven by his older brother when it flipped.

He became trapped under the bike and had to be freed by his brother, sustaining critical injuries in the accident.

Family friend Bernice Ariasa said the eight-year-old had suffered a fractured skull and brain bleed.

On Friday the boy was flow back to Perth in an induced coma on a mercy flight and transferred to Perth’s children’s hospital.

Ms Ariasa said the fact Joshua is now breathing on his own is a huge boost for the family.

“He’s in hospital, still in a coma, but is breathing independently and this is a huge milestone in itself,” Ariasa told The West.

“Thank you for all of your efforts so far. Please keep sharing and keep this going.”

Joshua is still in intensive care and his condition is still critical.
