Emergency services respond to hazmat situation at Sydney airport
EMERGENCY services have responded to a hazmat situation involving a plane from Los Angeles.
A SUSPICIOUS “white substance” has been found on an American Airlines plane after it arrived at Sydney airport on Friday morning.
Seven fire crews including two hazmat teams were dispatched to the tarmac to handle a hazardous materials situation near the passenger jet that had just touched down from Los Angeles.
The “white substance” was found on the plane by crew unloading luggage, AAP reported.

Fire and Rescue NSW said firefighters found a “low irritant chemical additive” that would be sent to forensic services for investigation.
The area has been rendered safe, FRNSW said.
The plane was American Airlines flight 73 from Los Angeles that landed in Sydney 7.15am.

Emergency crews were alerted to the incident just before 8am on Friday.
Sydney Airport has been contacted for comment.
