Eye-watering price to dine at this exclusive sushi restaurant
A luxe sushi restaurant is set to open its doors next year in Miami — and if you want to dine there, you’ll need to fork out $15,000.
A $15,000 members-only sushi restaurant is set to open in Miami next and it’s expected to be — as you’d imagine — super luxe.
The swanky multi-concept called Ura will have the reputable Sushi Namba at its core with room for a modest 10-seat sushi counter, as well as a jazz lounge and a cocktail bar that offers bespoke fruit-based elixirs.
It’s predicted to be a culinary experience like no other with legendary Tokyo-based chef Hidefumi Namba at the helm.
Namba, who has the 5th best sushi spot in Tokyo, is known for his obsessive approach to temperature control.
It’s what also sets him apart from Japan’s sushi elite with his meticulous approach something customers can expect at his Miami restaurant.
He will have dishes such as gizzard shad, or kohada, served at precise temperatures to ensure the highest quality.
According to Bloomberg, he arranges 23C otoro (fatty tuna belly) on 40C rice with Namba telling the publication it prompts the tuna’s fat to melt into the rice, while the vinegar that seasons the rice balances out the fish’s richness.
He’s always dreamt of expanding to a “beautiful city [that] always has good weather” and told Bloomberg he plans the Miami menu to be the same as Tokyo’s.
In fact, the chef will hand pick the Toyosu Market fish that the team flies back to Miami three times a week, estimating that 90 per cent of the ingredients used on Ura’s menu will be from Japan.
He will have his longtime senior apprentice Yuma Takanashi running the counter, with Namba himself there for a full month for the opening — and then one week each quarter.
Those wishing to indulge in this culinary luxury will need to fork out $US10,000 – about $A15,000 membership fee.
The idea of Ura came about when first-time restaurateurs and brothers Samuel and Jose Tcherassi approached Namba with an offer to open his restaurant in Miami — and not the usual bustling city of New York where many of Japan’s elite chefs often find themselves.

He took up their offer but also suggested the space have a bar — a US branch of the members-only Bar Cocktailante Oboro located in Tokyo.
It happens to be run by his friend Shunta Yamakawa.
With plenty of exclusivity injected into Ura, the brothers’ venture together with Namba will no doubt be a hit — if you have a spare $15,000 of course.
