ETIHAD Airways is introducing "flying nannies" on flights who will help replenish milk bottles, perform magic tricks and take older children on tours of the galley.

The nanny, who will be identified by an orange apron, will be a helping hand to families and unaccompanied children.

The Middle Eastern airline has spent the past two months training 300 cabin crew members for the role, and plans to have 500 flying nannies in the air by the end of the year.

The flying nanny will carry a special kit with straws, stickers, cardboard and other items to teach arts and crafts.

They will also use in-flight service items such as paper cups which can be made into hats and the Japanese art of origami to fold paper into sculptures.

Older children will be given quizzes and taken on tours of the galley during quiet times on the flight.
