Dodge baggage fees every time you fly (but leave your vanity at home)
Excess baggage can drain your holiday cash quicker than a souvenir shop. But are you daring enough for the alternative?
THEY are the pesky fees that chip away at your spending money before you've even left the tarmac.
And as budget airlines ramp up their competition with cheaper and cheaper airfares, add-ons like baggage charges will only keep soaring.
But if you simply can't sacrifice anything from your over-stuffed and overweight suitcase, never fear. An inventive European company has come up with a solution.
It may not be the chicest ensemble to ever take to the skies, but it's undeniably practical.
Jaktogo has come up with wearable suitcases made of durable and lightweight material. You can stuff the compartments with the things that won't fit in your brimming luggage, helping you dodge any charges the airline imposes.
Thrifty travellers can choose from the original poncho, or the female-friendly dress version. There's also a selection of leather, denim or polyester.
The original Jaktogo has 14 cavernous pockets of various sizes and can accommodate 10kg of luggage. It looks like a regular satchel, but can transform into a jacket.
The dress hides six pockets under a balloon-shaped skirt and has four other pockets, including one big enough for important documents.
So is wearable luggage a big fashion fail or the new frontier in frugal flying? Reviews on the company's website are mostly positive, but some users baulk at the cost and the, um, ugliness.
"Use it for all my weekend trips to the dog shows ... Fits my dog, her outfits, bones, and squeaky toys too!!!!!!!!! However, perhaps due to the extra body heat we generate, I find the jaktogo to be a bit stuffy. Any chance you plan to make this product in quick-dri fabric?"
"Great idea, but the price is very steep and it wouldn't be worth your while unless you were a frequent flyer."

"Just when I was thinking that my jacket was ugly ... if you paid me I wouldn't wear that."
