Australian expat leaves country over ‘unfair’ consent laws, gets completely roasted online
A man has been obliterated after claiming he left Australia over new laws which stop him, he claims, from even being in the same room as female relatives.
A man who claims to have fled the country due to Australia’s sexual consent laws has been savagely roasted after having a spectacular online meltdown.
Stephen Irving, an Australian expat now living in Thailand, claimed he moved overseas because of our “unfair” consent laws, which he labels “dangerous” for men.
“I haven’t been in the same room as a western girl in two years. Once they (introduced) enthusiastic consent I left Australia and I don’t want to come back,” he said in one of his many TikTok videos.
“I would not recommend being in the same room, even with a family member after enthusiastic consent, not without being very, very careful because they have all legal rules against you.”
It appears Mr Irving, whose profile states he moved to Thailand’s Chon Buri in February 2024, is referring to the affirmative consent laws that have been adopted by four Australian states and one territory.
Queensland became the latest state to adopt this model, with the reforms coming into effect in March 2024.
Under the affirmative consent model, consent to sexual activity must be mutually agreed, all participants have to say or do something to seek consent, and consent must be communicated back to the asking participant.
This means, in cases of sexual assault, the accused can’t rely on their own belief that the victim consented, with the law saying a belief in sexual consent is not reasonable unless the person took active steps to check their partner was consenting.
NSW, Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania have also adopted this model.
Mr Irving said he “never wants to go back to Australia” because the laws are “just so unfairly one sided”.
The expat has multiple videos where he complains about what he calls “female run societies”, in which he claims women are given too much authority and are allowed to have “no self-control”.
At one point he complains about it is “unfair” he is expected to have self-control and “not punch” a woman during an argument.
In just a few days, Mr Irving has made 30 videos in which he rants about women, consent laws, men being treated unfairly and his alleged high IQ, among other topics.
He also has a YouTube channel where he posts similar content. His social media accounts also link to a website called Full Time Digital Nomads, which features blog posts accompanied by his picture titled ‘Masculine vs Female-Run Countries’ and ‘Why Women Can’t Apologize: Is It Evolutionary or Learned?’.
And his online meltdown hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Aussie women haven’t held back in their responses.
Multiple well known content creators have weighed in, with Mr Irving then lashing out at them directly as a result.
Influencer Gabby Goessling, who has more than 368,000 followers, said she can’t believe “someone like this exists”.
“It’s hilarious but it is also scary,” she said in a recent video.
“I cannot believe it. Does he not realise there are millions of normal men that are just living their life and everything is fine because they aren’t going to [sexually assault] someone?”
Women’s safety advocate and podcaster, Mia Findlay, also weighed in after Mr Irving made a video about her saying she wanted to “humiliate” him.
“I don’t need to lift a finger to humiliate you mate. Your value system is humiliating, your belief system is humiliating. Your use of your precious time and energy on your one go on this planet, that’s humiliating,” she said in response.
Popular TikTok creator Rach McQueen also made a series of videos calling out Mr Irving, stating: “Seems like you are pretty desperate for some attention there bro”.
Plenty of other Aussies have since joined in, stunned by the expat’s “emotional” videos.
“I think he just need to calm down, like he’s just VERY emotional,” one person said.
“That guy is giving the podcast bitter blokes some competition,” another joked.
