Snow dumps at New Zealand ski resorts
NEW Zealand has received a much-needed boost to its ski season with up to 40cm of new snowfalls.
NEW Zealand has received a much-needed boost to its ski season with up to 40cm of new snowfalls.
South Island resorts The Remarkables and Coronet Peak received up to 10cm of snow at the base yesterday and up to 40cm on the higher slopes.
"We are super stoked to have the ski area blanketed in new snow,'' The Remarkables ski area manager Ross Lawrence said.
Before the falls the resorts were looking patchy, after not receiving any heavy snowfalls since the start of the season.
Mt Hutt ski resort near Christchurch also received a top up of the white stuff.
"It started snowing on and off late last night and has been increasing through the morning,'' Mt Hutt ski area manager James McKenzie said.
"If it continues to dump as promised, it should be pretty epic when we get open again.''
Australian ski resorts have also had a boost, with Hotham Alpine Resort in Victoria hitting the one metre mark after receiving 14cm of fresh snow in the past week.
"We have been favoured by Mother Nature this season and as a result can offer our guests access to extensive terrain for skiing and boarding,'' Hotham sales and marketing manager Gina Woodward said.
"It's a really great time to be up here.''
