CAN you pick a real Andy Warhol from a fake?

One of the pictures shown in the lobby of this Melbourne hotel is real, the other nine are forgeries.

Guests staying at the Art Series Hotels in the city during Winter will be asked to chose which they believe is an original.

One person who guesses correctly will win the $20,000 painting.

The hotel group - which has three art-themed hotels in Melbourne - enlisted convicted art forger Tony Tetro for the Which Warhol is Warhols? promotion.

He was commissioned to produce nine replica Warhols that will hang in the hotels alongside a genuine one until early August.

One fake will be revealed each week and will also be given away as prizes.

Art Series Hotel Group CEO Will Deague said he wanted to make art more accessible for guests and help provide an education on art.

"In running Which Warhol, we're looking to profile this serious issue and stimulate discussion and debate around the production of replica art,'' he said.

"What does it mean for the industry, how can you pick a fake from a real, what value do we actually place on art?''

People interested in the idea can follow @whichwarhol on Twitter or facebook.com/artserieshotels, with the chance to win a night at the hotel.

The promotion follows the group's Steal Banksy promotion that was held in December that challenged people to try to steal an original Banksy artwork from the hotel.

The group's hotels The Cullen, The Blackman and The Olsen are named after famous Australian artists.
