Qantas slashes 50,000 flights to the US in major sale, including New York and Los Angeles
Australia’s national carrier has cut the price on tens of thousands of seats — with fares half way around the world less than $1200.
Up to 50,000 fares to the US have been slashed with the launch of a brand new direct flight.
Fares have been discounted across Qantas from Tuesday after the Flying Kangaroo launched a seven day North and South America Red Tail Sale.Economy return flights between Sydney and Los Angeles begin at $1,199, while other economy fares include Sydney to Vancouver ($1,599), Sydney to New York ($1,699), Sydney to Santiago ($1,999).
The sale comes after Qantas announced direct flights from Melbourne to Honolulu in a move that will bring in 40,000 extra seats to Hawaii per year.
Economy return fares for the new flight route begins at $1,049, with flights set to take off three times per week with an Airbus A330 aircraft from early May 2025.
Qantas chief executive officer international Cam Wallace said he’s “thrilled” to announce the direct flights, which will bring a “new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers”.
Travel periods for the sale fares begin from October 2024 to June 2025, with flights including checked baggage, complimentary food and beverages and seat selection.
