Tiny snowboarder reacts to being cut off

From the vault: THEY'RE better, faster, and have no fear. Rule number one: Don't mess with the kids at Perisher.

Don't mess with the kids

THEY are the coolest gang in the snow. They've only just learned to walk - but they're dynamos on the ski slopes.

These are the Perisher kids, many of them under five-years-old, some still in nappies, yet their skills on the snow turn envious heads.

This confident gang of kids with their low centre of gravity and unfettered minds avoid wobbling on their skis or grabbing strangers for support; instead they glide across the slopes with ease.

The world's most spectacular ski resorts

The Ski Patrol responsible for safety at Perisher tells us that speed is the biggest cause of injuries. We see it first hand - while a girl snowboards safely down the mountain she is cut off by a 20-something - who nearly knocks a child flying. At the last second a collision is averted - not before the child lets loose screaming "you idiot!"

The snowboarder is an exception to most of the folk we observed, who give the kids a wide berth and plenty of respect.

When an instructor was asked why kids so good, he simply said "they don't over think it".
