Many travellers are no longer satisfied with a simple trip to the slopes, with some seeking out extreme ways to get their kicks while skiing.

Tree-jumping and powering along with home-made jetpacks are among some of the bizarre stunts skiers have performed in their bid for an adrenalin-rush.

Personal jetpack on skis

Troy Hartman took to the ski fields in Canada to trial his home-made jetpack, made from a turbo-jet engine that is designed for military drones. He gave the throttle about 50 per cent and reached speeds of up to 80 km/h. His biggest fear when taking to the slopes with the jetpack? When the engines fail to start up properly they can catch fire - and they sit right on his back.

Speed-flying

World record ski jump
