A DIVER has been filmed using a shark as an underwater taxi.

Terry, a dive guide at the hotel Sofitel Bora Bora in Tahiti, can be seen holding on to the fin of a lemon shark to travel underwater.

Surrounded by black-tip reef sharks up to 3m long as well as lemon sharks, Terry gives tips to tourists on how to hitch a ride on a shark.

"First you have to dive 10m and you have to hold on to the fin of the shark. You make taxi shark and maybe you can go to Australia," he says.

Terry tempts the sharks with sardines and is soon surrounded by the predators, but says he has no fear as he is protected by a tattoo.

"The shark is my father, the dolphin my mother and two flowers my sister. I make this tattoo to protect me because every day I see shark."

Terry also swims on stingrays, but it’s the shark taxi that draws the crowd. But most tourists prefer to watch rather than catch an underwater cab with him.
