Van life on steroids – and yours for just $2.7 million

If you thought selling your house and moving to life on the road in a campervan was for the budget savvy, think again.

Meet the ultimate home on wheels.

The zenith of travelling abodes is undoubtedly the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon. It even sounds fancy. And it can be yours for a paltry $2.7 million.

The debut of German company Dembell, the vehicle sits somewhere between a bus and a highway-going yacht. Sorry make that superyacht. This monster requires not one, not two, but three Mercedes axles for its chassis.

OK, it isn’t cheap. But for your money, you get interiors designed by ocean go-to Azimut Yachts and we’re talking director-style folding dining chairs, wall sconces, a ceramic toilet and vessel sink, ambient lighting, stone bathroom trim, and leather sofa upholstery. The floor of the motorhome runs flat from front to back, offering a uniform ceiling height of 2m. So no more ducking to avoid hitting your head.

The massive van is $2.7 million.

To keep things cosy, you get underfloor and radiator heat, plus heated window panes. On summer days, you can dine al fresco under a retractable 6.3m x 3.5m awning. The kitchen appliances are all supplied by Miele, including the induction cooktop, oven, 224-litre refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave, while the luxury motorhome gets a home theatre system by Bose that works in tandem with another TV mounted to the wall in the living area.

The front cabin has captain’s seats for the driver and three passengers, which get spring suspension and massage function. The airconditioned driver’s cab also has a lift-away queen bed and the Dembell motorhome can also stay off the grid thanks to roof-mounted solar panels, on-board generator, and 1000-litre freshwater tank.

Semi-transparent glass doors separate the different rooms inside the motorhome and the bathroom is a little slice of luxury.

And this is just the start of the ingenious construction at play here. There is actually enough room down below for a garage. You read that correctly – and Dembell used a Ferrari California to show it off. Available in a chic smoky grey with a red stripe just below the window line, this brings new meaning to king of the road.
