What does $5000 a night get you at a five-star hotel? See inside the two-level hotel room in Melbourne booked by the rich and famous.

It is not often you walk into a hotel room and think ‘wow this is even better than the pictures’ — but then again it is also not often you have a staircase in your room and the hotel hair dryer is a Dyson.

News.com.au went inside a luxury penthouse this month that starts at $5000 a night, which has hosted Melbourne icons like Bec and Chris Judd, international celebrities and one of Australia’s richest people.

Pullman Melbourne on the Park general manager Stephan Leroy stopped short of revealing their names in order to maintain their privacy.

The William Clarke Sky Villa is described as “the jewel in the crown” of the hotel’s $40 million renovation.

The two-level penthouse took about 12 months to renovate and was unveiled in June 2022.

But a year later, in June last year, the five star hotel levelled up its lux offerings again.

The new luxury ONE9 package will set you back $20,000 a night – but you can bring along 35 friends. So that’s about $570 each if you were to split it.

It includes the entire 19th floor with 18 rooms, including 14 deluxe executive rooms, three suites and the William Clarke Sky Villa.

Guests also get an all-day beverage package, continental breakfast, lunch, evening canapes, and valet parking for up to 18 cars.

“Level ONE9 is an incredible corporate offering for organisations that may like to treat staff or clients to a once in a lifetime experience,” Mr Leroy said.

“It’s also a great package for touring musicians, actors and/or sports teams that require a large number of rooms and a little extra space to relax and enjoy their stay.”

Inside the penthouse

When inside the penthouse it is easy to forget you are actually inside a hotel.

Entering on the top floor, there is an entryway that leads to a king bedroom with a work desk, walk-in-robe and marble bathroom.

However, if you turn left at the entryway, you’ll find a door that leads to a staircase down to another floor.

There, guests can find a spacious living and dining area, as well as a study, hidden kitchen and second bathroom.

The windows on both levels, especially those overlooking the city skyline and Fitzroy Gardens to the right, look like art hanging on the wall.

And it is exactly the look we are told architects DKO were going for. The specially designed windows have metal shrouds that act like frames.

The views are such a winning feature of the room, the huge flat screen TV in the bedroom is designed to rise from a cabinet so it is only in your eyesight when you want it to be.

Guests also have access to the hotel’s gym, outdoor pool and executive lounge, which has pre-dinner canapes and drinks from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

They are required to dress in smart casual at all times, and not enter the lounge in sports attire, swimwear, thongs or robes.

A taste of Victoria

If you are travelling to Melbourne from interstate or overseas, the Pullman Melbourne on the Park gives you a great taste of the state – literally.

Aside from the stunning city views, the hotel’s restaurant, The Cliveden, uses local produce with suppliers including Meredith Dairy, Green Eggs, La Madre Bakery and Andrew’s Choice Sausage.

At the buffet breakfast, which is set up like a market with different themed food stations, there was even fresh honey dripping straight from the honeycomb from Beechworth Honey.

Back in the penthouse, the natural soaps, lotions, shampoos, conditioners and bath soak is from Hunter Lab and made in Melbourne.
