Etihad Airways has just launched a second route for its A380, where you can book a luxury three-room suite a step above first class.

A private living room, double bed and ensuite, including a shower, at 40,000 feet.

That is the level of luxury you get when you book The Residence, a step up from first class, on Etihad Airways’ A380.

The airline has announced that from April 22 next year, travellers will have the option to fly between Abu Dhabi and New York on the double-decker aircraft.

It is only the second route people can book to fly in The Residence, with the A380 currently flying between Abu Dhabi and London.

As part of a launch offer, passengers can upgrade to The Residence from first class starting from 10,999 AED (about $4500) for one person or 14,999 AED (about $6200) for two people, one-way.

But they’ll have to book before December 12 this year.

The standard The Residence upgrade fare between Abu Dhabi and New York is 16,600 AED (about $6,800) per person, one-way.

The upgrade fare is on top of the first class fare, which starts from 28,020 AED (about $11,600).

The A380 will operate on one of the two daily Etihad flights to New York. The other daily flight will be a Boeing 787-9 with first, business and economy cabins, but not The Residence.

Sarah Built, Etihad Airways’ vice president of sales in Australasia, said the A380 was in high demand from travellers across the globe.

“In introducing our impressive big bird to the journey across the Atlantic, Aussie travellers now have the opportunity to fly in ultimate style, luxury and comfort, along with the chance to experience the world’s only three-room suite in the sky, The Residence,” she said.

“Plus, with Etihad now calling Abu Dhabi Terminal A home, guests from Australia can look forward to a world-class airport experience, boarding the A380 to New York, rested and refreshed.”

Abu Dhabi’s Terminal A welcomed its first passengers this month with 28 international airlines transitioning over to the new facilities. From February 9 next year, Abu Dhabi International Airport will be renamed Zayed International Airport.

“Whether guests are flying in economy, business, first or The Residence, they will enjoy enhanced levels of service across all classes,” Ms Built said.

“For Australians looking to indulge in the pinnacle of luxury while flying the AUH – JFK route, The Residence is the perfect opportunity to do so, with upgrades currently on offer to celebrate the new route launch.”

Etihad Airways chief executive officer Antonoaldo Neves said the airline was “thrilled” to start flying the “remarkable” aircraft across the Atlantic.

“Whether they are flying in Economy, Business, First or the three-room suite in the sky, The Residence, they will enjoy elevated levels of service from our dedicated crew, and ensure they arrive in the city that never sleeps refreshed and relaxed,” he said.

The “world’s only three-room suite in the sky” is suitable for up to two people.

On top of having access to plenty of room and a shower, there is also an à la carte menu, which is served on designer tableware in a private living room whenever the guest chooses to dine.

They’ll find champagne and caviar among their options.

Travellers can also choose to have their breakfast in bed.

The bedroom is a separate room from the living area and includes a double bed and door to shut for privacy.
