A one-week holiday here will cost you more than $1 million

THIS could be the most expensive holiday in the world. But why is it worth seven figures?

THIS could be the most expensive holiday package in the world.

A week’s stay on the remote Caribbean island of Calala Island will set you back more than $1 million — but when you take into account the extraordinary perks that come with the visit, the hefty price tag makes sense.

Shopping site VeryFirstTo.com has launched a one week trip to Calala Island in Nicaragua — at a cost of A$1.26 million — where the wealthiest of travellers can stay in luxury, waterfront villas.

As part of the deal, a no-fly zone is imposed over the island to ensure the upmost privacy. Guests are taken care of by a massive team of 25 staff, ready to cater to their every whim.

There’s specially prepared meals each day, including fresh local seafood, and the week is capped off by a 12-course gala dinner, featuring plenty of champagne.

Guests can enjoy unlimited scuba diving in the island’s reefs, water sports on the pristine waters, a fishing trip, caviar and sushi tasting, the chance to design their own cigars — and take home 20 of them — and a personal fireworks display.

The whole trip will be captured by a professional videographer, and guests can take home a bound book of professional photos to remember their stay.

Even more bizarrely, the package comes with a treasure hunt, with a prize of gold bars and coins worth close to $A200,000.

“Calala Island was historically a pirate’s playground, so participants of the trip will be invited to step back in time and embark on a specially curated treasure hunt,” the listing reads.

“With a hidden treasure chest containing gold bars and coins worth at least $150,000 ($A189,700), the stakes are certainly high.”

There’s a really altruistic aspect to the lavish holiday — of the $1 million spent on the holiday package, $100,000 ($A126,000) will be spent on building a new, much-needed school close to Calala Island that will be named in honour of the lead guest.

The seven-night holiday is available for eight adults and two children and includes return private jet flights from any US city to Nicaragua, and then a helicopter ride to Calala Island.
