2018 HomeAway Holiday Rental Awards
IT COSTS a bomb but this stunning property has just been named the best place to rent in Australia.
A COUNTRY retreat that costs $1000 a night in Victoria’s sought-after Mornington Peninsula has been voted the best luxury rental in Australia.
Orchard Keepers, located among the vines and orchards in Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula, has taken out first place in the Indulgence category of the 2018 HomeAway Holiday Rental Awards.
The property, which costs holiday-makers $1000 a night for a minimum of two nights, or $5200 for a week’s stay during high season, beat an impressive line-up of high-end rentals available on the accommodation and rentals site HomeAway.
And from these photos, it’s not hard to see why.
The silver winner was Jerrymara, a luxurious rural home and estate near the seaside NSW South Coast village of Gerringong that was only bought by owners Glyn and Kate Edis one year ago.
“We were looking for a year to find a property to call home, as well as run a business, when we found Jerrymara. It took us six months to make the final decision however, as there was a lot of work this property needed, and it was daunting,” Kate Edis told news.com.au.
“The infrastructure was incredible, with magnificent advanced tree groves, swimming pool and a fabulous floodlit court, but everything had been neglected for years. The gardens were overgrown and wild, the cottages were grubby with holes hidden behind prints, the pool was leaking, and tiles were all chipped. The list went on.”
She said the couple decided to take the plunge and worked for 10 hours a day, every day for a year, to get the property up to scratch.
“We painted, cleaned and repaired the two cottages, and fully brought the gardens up to what they should be, with the vast majority of the work undertaken by us,” she said.
The couple recently completed a full interiors upgrade in keeping with the 1940s vibe of the homestead.
Prices for a minimum two nights’ stay at Jerrymara start at $1750 per night.
The bronze award went to Copperstone KI on South Australia’s Kangaroo Island, which was only completed in 2015 and offers views of the hinterland and Emu Bay Beach.
Perched on 2.2 hectares of private land, close the beach, the property costs $755 per night on average.
