Gordon Ramsay restaurant charges customer $830 for dinner for two

A diner at one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants was left with an insanely high dinner bill of $830 for two, due to a simple but unforgiving menu mistake.

Man's 'selfish' receipt sparks fury

A guest at Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant in New Jersey was left with an insanely high bill after misreading the menu pricing.

Jeffrey Paige said he “regrets nothing” about the eye-watering tab as he “enjoyed the hell” out of his meal even if it was a mistake.

Mr Paige and his girlfriend made a reservation for outdoor dining for Gordon Ramsay Steak at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City last September and he planned to splurge on some American Wagyu beef.

However, he noticed that “real deal” Triple Seared Japanese A5 was on the menu for what appeared to be a very low price.

More commonly known as Kobe, it is widely considered to be the finest cut available.

Mr Paige thought that the Kobe cut was priced at $US35 ($47.25) for four ounces (113.4g) compared to $US84 ($113.45) for eight ounces (226.8g) of wagyu.

“I had never had real deal Kobe,” he told the Mirror.

“It was like nothing else you’ll ever have. Melt in your mouth delicious. We also ordered a couple of sides, appetisers, and my girlfriend had chef Ramsay’s famous beef Wellington for the first time ever.

“All in all an amazing meal and we were glad we could support the restaurant and its staff during these challenging times. And I still couldn’t believe Kobe was cheaper than wagyu – or so I thought.”

The couple was shocked when the bill showed that they owed $US614.88 ($A830.35), far above what they expected.

Mr Paige went back to the menu to double-check and discovered that the Kobe was in fact $US35 per ounce, not per four ounces.

Despite his costly error, he says that he takes all the blame and wouldn’t go back on the meal.

“I wish Chef Ramsay was there to come out and call me a donut for f***ing this up, lol,” he said of the error, which he posted about on Reddit.

“I enjoyed the hell out of it. No regrets baby,” he said.

“My family and I are huge Gordon Ramsay fans, we watch his shows – Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef – and I’ve been to his restaurants before and loved everything we’ve gotten,” he continued.

“The steak and the experience were unforgettable, and if I had to make this blunder at any restaurant in the world, I’m glad it was at Chef Ramsay’s.”
