Beverly Hills Hotel McCarthy Salad will cost you more than $2700

It may just look like a health dish you’d order for lunch, but this salad will sent you back a couple of grand — but there’s a good reason why.

It might looked like some chopped tomatoes, half an avocado and a side of beetroot — but from next month, this salad will set you back more than $2700.

To celebrate their 110th birthday, the Beverly Hills Hotel will be dishing up their iconic McCarthy salad for a cool US$1912 (AU$2722) version.

While the recipe for the McCarthy salad has remained untouched for decades, this ‘upgrade’ will be well worth its weight in gold – literally.

The salad will set you back more than $2000.

The salad’s name is in honour of frequent guest and polo player Neil McCarthy who was the captain of a local polo team in the 1940s. One day in the Polo Lounge, where the salad is served, he requested a very specific list of ingredients for a salad and the rest is history.

With nearly 600 of the salad’s sold in the hotel’s restaurant and through in-room dining each week, the celebratory version’s price tag of $1912 will honour the year the hotel opened.

From June until December, guests dining in the Polo Lounge will enjoy the ‘upgraded’ salad which will arrive at the table with white gloves and the salad will be garnished with gold leaf flakes, lobster, caviar and paired with a bottle of Dom Pérignon.

The salad will be served in a commemorative bowl made by Berrnadaud, the masters of French porcelain since 1863, that guests will then get to take home with them. The design is inspired by the hotel’s Martinique print that has adorned its walls since 1949.

But if you do make the visit, you can still order the OG of the McCarthy, which will set you back $63 ($US44) and features two types of lettuce, organic chicken, beetroot, egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, tomato and avocado, with a balsamic dressing.
