An epic new $168 million water park is opening in Europe next year, featuring a water slide with the world’s highest drop.
A new water park will open in Europe next year and it will have 14 water slides, including the world’s highest drop.
Plans for Liseberg Oceana in Sweden were first confirmed back in 2017, with the entire construction expected to cost around $168 million (£90million), according to Experience UK, The Sun reports.
Construction work on the water park started back in 2020, with the site slated to open in 2024.
When the water park opens next spring, Liseberg Oceana will form part of the Liseberg Amusement Park – a popular theme park in the country.
The Liseberg Oceana will feature a total of 14 water slides, as well as plenty of other attractions.
One of those is the Slide Serpent, which is said to be the first of its kind in Europe.
The water slide will be shaped like a snake, and it will feature plenty of twists, turns, and bends along its 177-metre route.
Meanwhile, the Red Slide Rex will have the world’s highest drop at 13 metres.
The water slide will take parkgoers through a 200-metre route on a series of fast turns and descents.
Another water slide will be the Abyss Slide where six people will climb onto a water raft before heading through a 22-metre-wide funnel.
Other features at the park include a water play area and a smaller lagoon area for younger children.
There will also be a Wavepool, and a winding river called Pearl River, where holiday-makers will be able to float along in a current.
The official opening date and ticket prices have yet to be released.
Liseberg Oceana is located inside the Swedish city of Gothenburg. Both Ryanair and British Airways operate direct flights from London.
Liseberg’s chairman of the board, Christer Holmgrem, told Experience UK: “This is exactly what the destination Gothenburg needs to get the tourism industry back on track after the Corona crisis.
“The water park will be able to receive half a million visitors a year and generate 185,000 extra guest nights to the city. It will give new life to an ailing industry.”
Liseberg Oceana isn’t the only water attraction set to open soon in Europe.
An indoor water park in Germany with a rainforest and a huge beach is set to open a new hotel.
Tropical Islands is a huge attraction in Germany, which has record-breaking attractions within the former aircraft carrier.
And the resort has revealed new plans for a $41 million hotel, with 500 rooms ranging from two to four-person suites.
Guests will be able to enter the park without leaving the hotel, as it will be attached to the resort.
It hopes to open by early 2024.
In the UK, a huge new $467 million water attraction is set to open in Manchester.
