Inside the world’s largest cruise ship Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas
If you thought the Titanic was big, wait until you see the size of this ship that’s been dubbed the world’s largest.
The world’s biggest cruise ship is preparing to set sail, as it was seen testing the waters ahead of its 2024 launch.
Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas sailed hundreds of kilometres on Wednesday and gave soon to be passengers a glimpse into the floating city.
The vessel, which is nearly 365m long and weighs 250,800 tones seemingly glided through the water off the coast of Finland, The Sun reports.
A suspended infinity pool and three storey family suite are just a few of the luxury options on-board.
While the Titanic was the largest passenger liner at the time in 1912 at 10 decks high, 269m long - Royal Caribbean’s new ship is the current largest.
The front of the ship has a giant glass viewing area, and colourful twisting slides for guests to enjoy.
Over 2,000 crew members will live on-board in a “home away from home” which was recently added to the colossal vessel.
Icon of the Seas will feature the largest water park at sea, containing record breaking slides and more fun options.
A swim up bar called “Swim and Tonic” is also included, while an “aqua dome” will allow guests to drink while soaking up wraparound ocean views near an indoor waterfall.
It’s over 20 decks tall, boasts seven pools and can accommodate almost 8,000 guests.
Setting sail from January 2024, Icon of the Seas will feature eight unique neighbourhoods spanning 20 decks featuring everything from a sunken pirate ship on the top deck to the line’s largest ice arena in the bowels of the ship.
More than 40 dining, bar and night-life venues will feed and entertain the thousands of passengers.
Cruisers will be able to choose from 28 different cabin types with the Ultimate Family Townhouse spanning three decks complete with a slide, white picket fence and mailbox.
Infinite Balcony rooms will feature a retractable window turning floor-to-ceiling glass into a balcony and new Sunset Corner Suites will enjoy vast terraces overlooking the rear of the ship.
Returning favourite neighbourhoods will include the Royal Promenade with floor-to-ceiling ocean views plus more than 15 restaurants, cafes, bars and lounges; a lush Central Park with thousands of flowers, plans and even TREES and Royal Caribbean’s largest Suite Neighbourhood with three decks of luxury rooms as well as sun deck, private pool and restaurant.
The new ship will also be the line’s most environmentally-friendly, it’s first with fuel cell technology and powered by liquefied natural gas.
