Summit Trail, Mt Augustus National Park WA
12km return - 6 to 7km
Want to see a mighty outback monolith that is twice as high as Uluru, but way more under the radar? Head up to Mount Augustus (Burringurrah). It's an incredible red peak that climbs to 717 metres, like its famous counterpart, the colour of the rock shifts between sunrise and sunset. Sights on this challenging walk include red sandplains, desert scrubland of wattles and the enormity of the rock itself. Walks must be conducted in the day time, and take place on the traditional lands of the Wajarri tribe. Picture: Tourism Western Australia
