A LIST of the destinations around the world that offer Australian travellers the best value for money has been released. Can you pick the winners?
THERE’S nothing quite like the feeling of sheer joy that comes with snagging a bargain, and this list of the cheapest places for Australian travellers to visit is music to our ears.
The TripAdvisor report analyses the cost of hotel room service items in 48 popular destinations around the world, with Sophia, the capital of Bulgaria, named the cheapest destination of all at an average of $126.04 a night.
That includes the cost of a one-night stay in a four-star hotel room, a club sandwich ordered through room service, refreshments from the mini bar and the dry cleaning of one shirt.
And Sophia isn’t the only destination in Eastern Europe that’s cheap — a whopping six cities made the top 10 including Kiev ($137.31), Warsaw ($151.04), Budapest ($157.84), Prague ($177.03) and Moscow ($177.34).
Southeast Asia is another hotspot, with four of the world’s best value destinations — Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi and Bangkok placed 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12th respectively.
While New York was named the priciest destination in the world at a whopping $546 a night, and Sydney scored a fairly average result, coming in at 20th place at $281.84.
In Sydney, on average a club sandwich will set travellers back $21.63, a bottle of water is $4.88, a mini bottle of vodka costs $22.75, a can of coke is $4.13, a packet of peanuts is $4.38 and it will cost $12.88 to dry clean a shirt. The cost of a night’s stay in Sydney is an average of $211.
