Why Gordon Ramsay would never eat an in-flight meal
HE MAY have worked as a culinary adviser for a major airline, but the celebrity chef reckons there’s ‘no f**king way’ he’d ever eat an in-flight meal again.
ANYONE who’s seen Kitchen Nightmares knows that Gordon Ramsay has low tolerance levels for bad food.
But it turns out there one type of grub the chef won’t even go near — plane food.
The Sun reports that this is despite Ramsay owning a restaurant at Heathrow Airport called Plane Food, and previously working as an adviser for Singapore Airlines on their in-flight meals.
Still, in an interview this Refinery29 this week, the outspoken chef said: “There’s no f**king way I eat on planes”.
“I worked for airlines for 10 years, so I know where this food’s been and where it goes, and how long it took before it got on board,” he said.
Instead, he loads up on fancy food at a deli or wine bar in the airport before he boards his flight.
“A nice selection of Italian meats, a little glass of red wine, some sliced apples or pears with some parmesan cheese,” he said of his preferences.
“I’m like a pig in s**t.”
Ramsay is no stranger to criticism of plane food — last year The Sun revealed that his own Plane Food restaurant at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 has been rated average, poor or terrible by almost 750 customers on TripAdvisor.
The British chef, who is famous for transforming struggling restaurants in TV shows such as Hotel Hell and Kitchen Nightmares, received a flood of bad reviews about the service, food and prices.
Ramsay’s revelation comes after a professional airline food taster revealed secrets from her unusual job.
