Melbourne citizens flood streets celebrating freedom day

With just one week left until international borders are thrown open, airlines are scrambling to get Aussies back on planes again.

Quarantine-free travel for fully vaccinated Australians will be in place from November 1 for people flying into Melbourne and Sydney, triggering a massive interest in getting away again.

And in response, airlines are ramping up their schedules and their sales.

Virgin Australia today launched its ‘Yay for Holidays’ sale, with 1.7 million fares on sale and seats for as little as $49.

The sale, which ends on November 1, is one of the airline’s biggest in history and includes destinations across Australia, Fiji, Bali and New Zealand.

Virgin Australia Group Chief Commercial Officer, Dave Emerson said the fares made it “irresistible” for Aussies to get back in the air.

“Australian travellers have never been more excited to travel again and Virgin Australia is proud to help them reunite with friends and family or visit that dream holiday destination,” Mr Emerson said.

“We are making it irresistible for Australians to return to the skies this summer, with some of the best value airfares in the market, an expanded network of flights, including 12 new services launched in the last month, and world-class customer service.
