The best and worst airport in the world

IF YOU can avoid it, try not to end up in these places for extended amounts of time. The lack of facilities in these airports will shock you.

VERY few of us enjoying being stuck in the airport because our plane has been delayed or worse, cancelled.

But if you’re planning on travelling soon, you might want to avoid the airports that are considered the worst of the worst.

SleepinginAirports.net, a popular website about airports and the people who sleep in them, has released its annual ranking of the world’s worst airports.

This year, Nigeria’s Port Harcourt International Airport has been given the title of the worst airport in the world.

The travel study surveyed over 26,000 international flyers.

Travellers were asked to rate their experience on factors such as the airport’s services and facilities, terminal cleanliness, customer service and comfort.

Travellers who actually slept in the airport were also able to rate the terminal on its “sleepability”.

Nigeria’s Port Harcourt, which is located in Omagwa, a suburb of Port Harcourt City in Rivers State, took the top worst spot due to its lack of seating, unhelpful staff, consistently broken air-conditioning and allegedly corrupt staff.

But if you happen to be flying through the Omagwa hub, don’t despair.

“The good news is that some areas of the terminal have been recently renovated, meaning you can expect actual walls, floors and windows,” says the website.

In SleepinginAirports’ ranking of the best airports in the world, Singapore’s Changi International Airport took out the top spot.

South Korea’s Seoul Incheon International Airport and Japan’s Tokyo Haneda International Airport were ranked second and third respectively.

The only Australian airport to make the list was Adelaide International Airport in the 29th spot.

The website also broke down the best and worst airports by regions.

New Zealand’s Wellington Wellington International Airport took out the number one position in the best of the South Pacific list, while Sydney International Airport took out the 7th spot.

When it comes to sleeping in airports, Singapore’s Changi International Airport was ranked number one.
