Qantas sell off in-flight booze trolleys fully stocked for $975

They’ve been selling pyjamas and seven hour flights to nowhere. Now, Qantas is offering you the chance to buy your own drinks cart.

When it comes to stepping on a flight – short or long haul – nothing quite beats throwing back a beverage or two at 38,000 feet.

But for many of us, flying anywhere has taken a back seat in 2020 and listening out for the clinking of mini wine bottles down an aisle feels like a distant memory – until now.

Following the success of selling off excess business class pyjama sets, Qantas has announced they will now start flinging fully kitted out booze trolleys.

After retiring the last of their Boeing 747 jets earlier this year, Qantas has 1000 of their galley carts stocked and ready to find a new home.

With just a handful of the carts on sale, each will be decked out with 40 mini bottles of white wine and 40 mini bottles of red wine. There will also be a full size bottle of Champagne from the business class cellar

In addition to the booze, the cart will have two business class amenity kits, an exclusive first class throw and two pairs of their signature business class pyjama sets.

But the fully stocked silver carts, which have each been on around 2000 flights between London, Los Angeles and Singapore, won’t come cheap.

Half bar carts will cost $974.70 including delivery, and a small number of full size carts will be available with double the items for $1474.70 including delivery.

Qantas executive manager of product and service, Phil Capps, said following the retirement of the airline’s last 747 in July – there has been a demand from aviation enthusiasts seeking memorabilia items from the iconic ‘Queen of the Skies’.

“There has been huge demand for Qantas 747 memorabilia and Frequent Flyers have expressed keen interest to convert the bespoke in-flight trolley into everything from lamp stands to storage units,” Mr Capps said.

“The fact they come fully stocked with some of Qantas’ most popular on-board service items will hopefully inspire some high-flying fun at home.

“These preloved carts served Qantas and our customers well during their world travels from London and Los Angeles to Singapore and Santiago, with each one averaging around 2000 flights. While we no longer have use for them, they still have life in them, especially for those with an appreciation for aviation collectables and an eye for design.”

The fully stocked cart will set you back close to $1000.

The sale comes a week after Qantas launched a ‘flight to nowhere’ for $787 – which sold out in a record 10 minutes.

The Australian airline announced they will operate a special seven-hour scenic joy flight that will soar across the Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales to cater for frequent flyer members desperate to experience life at 38,000 feet.

Dubbed the ‘Great Southern Land’ scenic flight, passengers will board the airline’s famed ‘Emily’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner on October 10, which is normally reserved for international flying.

The flight will take 150 passengers on a low-level fly-by journey of some of Australia’s most iconic landmarks including Uluru, Kata Tjuta, the Whitsundays, Gold Coast, Byron Bay and of course Sydney Harbour.
