Qantas reveals fancy new in-flight menu ahead of Perth to Paris route
In just over two weeks, Qantas will launch into a destination the airline hasn’t touched in 20 years. And now, a new menu to match has been revealed.
In just a few short weeks, Australia’s national carrier will be saying bonjour to a new route not seen departing down under for more than 20 years.
From July 12, Qantas will launch a new direct service between Perth and Paris — and just in time for the 2024 Olympics.
As the only carrier to offer the route, a string of changes to the airline’s menu will be introduced — all with a French flair.
Curated by Qantas Creative Director of Food, Beverage and Service, Neil Perry, passengers are in for a treat — with some of the in-flight menu highlights including a creme brulee, Bouillabaisse of snapper and Skull Island prawns and the pithivier of chicken and tarragon with onion puree.
The fancy new menu will be on offer across the airline's lounges and on-board, with Mr Perry noting the new menu ties in the best of local ingredients with French cooking.
“French cuisine is made up of so many amazing classic dishes,” he said.
“We spent a lot of time developing a menu that captures the balance of richness and freshness in French flavours while also keeping an element of familiarity that our customers love.”
Some of the other highlights include:
– Beef fillet with pomme puree, snow peas and Café de Paris butter,
– Fresh tuna Nicoise salad with olives, green beans, and lemon dressing,
– Coq au vin with pancetta, mushrooms, potato puree and snow peas,
– Duck and pistachio pâté en croûte with cornichons, radishes and watercress,
– Rum Savarin with berries and chantilly cream.
The new menu comes just weeks after the airline introduced its new on-board winter food menu.
The menu features plant-based options across all cabins and each route has a menu inspired by the destination.
Some of the standout dishes from the new menu include:
– Prawn and kimchi dumplings with marinated cucumbers,
– Crudités with wattleseed and beetroot dip, native Australian greens and Persian feta,
– House made artichoke fagottini pasta with tomato consommé, peas, scallop and tarragon,
– Coconut sticky rice pudding with mango, toasted coconut and sesame.
New dishes have also been added to the menu in Qantas’ International First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne, which you can only enter if you’re flying first class or are a platinum frequent flyer.
Those lucky enough to gain entry can feast on:
– Hunan style snapper with pickled and salted chillies,
– Duck ragu with soft polenta and green beans ago dolce,
– Plant-based dining: roast sweet potato with spinach, olive salsa and preserved lemon,
– Roasted pear with gingerbread, pecans and yoghurt sorbet.
Qantas will launch the first flight on July 12, 2024 and run four times a week to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport – being every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
When the Olympics in mid-August 2024, the route will cut back to thrice-weekly (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).
At the time of announcing the new destination, which the airline has not flown to (via Singapore) since 2004, newly appointed CEO Vanessa Hudson said the route ticks off a big “wish list” item for the carrier.
“We think customers will be as pleased as we are to see it go on sale,” Hudson said in October last year.
“Our direct flights to London and Rome have been hugely popular and Paris is the next most-requested destination, so we know the demand for this service will be strong as well.”
