Qantas frequent flyer members will for the first time be able to ‘double dip’ on points when flying with the airline — and staying with a select hotel chain.

Of the 30 million Qantas Frequent Flyer and Accor hotel loyalty members, members will be able to earn rewards for flights and hotel stays in one of the largest collaborations seen in the travel industry.

Previously, members could only earn points on one program per booking — so the new partnership essentially means members can ‘double dip’ — making it the first venture of its kind between a hospitality group and an airline in Australia.

Speaking to media on Wednesday, outgoing Accor Pacific chief executive Simon McGrath, who recently accepted a role as Crown Sydney CEO, said the relationship was “joining two forces” between two “much-loved brands”.

“We are joining forces to reward our customers, delivering exceptional travel benefits and unrivalled service for people who enjoy our two much-loved brands,” he said.

“Customers are at the heart of this partnership which is set to bring significant extended benefits for travellers.”

Members will be able to earn three Qantas Points per dollar as well as the usual ALL – Accor Live Limitless Reward points on eligible Accor hotel stays in Australia or across the Asia Pacific.

In addition, members will earn three Qantas Points for every dollar on eligible transactions while staying at Accor hotels, including dining and room service while also earning Reward points.

Qantas Loyalty CEO, Olivia Wirth said the partnership will help travellers strengthen their points earnings capabilities as both domestic and international borders begin to open.

“Our partnership with Accor launches at an ideal time, with domestic and international borders reopening and frequent flyers starting to plan and book their next getaway,” she said.

The partnership with Accor includes the Sofitel in Sydney.

“Eligible members of the Qantas and Accor loyalty programs will earn twice when they fly and stay in a hotel or resort.”

“We know this will be very popular for our frequent flyers whether they are travelling for business or on holidays.”
