Summer may be over, but for those looking to escape this winter — flight sales couldn’t be any hotter.

Qantas has announced a mammoth ‘million seat’ flight sale across the airline’s entire domestic network, with fares slashed to as little as $109 one way.

The sale, which kicks off today, sees more than 34 routes on sale for under $150 for flight travel from April through until mid-December.

The sale, which features some of the most popular routes for the airline, includes Launceston to Melbourne from $109, Melbourne to the Gold Coast from $135, Maroochydore to Sydney from $149 and Hamilton Island to Sydney for less than $200 one way.

The sale will linger for a week, coinciding with Tourism Tasmania’s massive push to get Aussies to travel south for the winter.

Dubbed as ‘The Off Season’, the push focuses on indulging in rich food experiences, wineries, festivals, and one-of-a-kind landscape sights throughout the winter season when visitation to the apple isle is at its lowest.

Flights to and from Tasmania, if booked with Virgin Australia, will be slashed from as little as $39 when flying from the major cities Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, with travel dates between 23 July to 19 September.

“In an increasingly competitive holiday marketplace, our airline partners are vital to ensure affordable access for visitors and Tasmanians and support our tourism industry year-round,” Tourism Tasmania CEO Sarah Clark told Pulse Tasmania.

“We know that winter is Tasmania’s best kept secret. The air is fresher, the oysters taste sweeter and the whisky feels warmer.”

The sales come just days after Aussie airlines were put under the microscope for performance throughout the month of January.

New data from the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics unpacked the “punctuality and reliability” of airlines operating between Australian airports in January.

The data revealed more than one-quarter of all Australian domestic flights are failing to get passengers off the ground and to their destination on time.

Bonza, which launched in Australia towards the end of 2023, came in as the top airline for

being on time or earlier, while REX came in second place and Qantas in third spot.
