Qantas brings back popular service in major city
Qantas has brought back a popular service to a major city after it was halted during Covid.
There is nothing more frustrating than having an evening flight but still wanting to explore the city and being stuck with your massive suitcase.
Qantas passengers in Hong Kong heading to Sydney or Melbourne no longer have to worry this after the airline brought back its popular service that allows them to check in their bags and forget about it.
Passengers travelling on one of Qantas’ daily flights from Hong Kong to the two major Aussie cities can now take advantage of the Airport Express In-Town Check-In service at either Hong Kong Station or Kowloon Station.
It was previously halted due to Covid.
It means customers can explore more of the thriving city and not have to worry about lugging their bags around – because once checked in, bags will be transferred on the Airport Express directly from the station to the aircraft.
The Aussie airline is one of only three carriers currently offering the In-Town Check-In service, which is available from 7am.
“Whether it’s enjoying the incredible Cantonese cuisine, riding the escalators through the Mid-Levels or getting in that last bit of shopping in Mong Kok, there is so much to do and see in Hong Kong,” Nick McGlynn, Qantas Executive Vice President Asia said.
“The return of our popular In-Town Check-In means that travellers can make the most of their stay, giving them the flexibility to explore Hong Kong without the burden of luggage.
“We know our customers love the convenience of checking their bags right in the middle of town and we are proud to be the first non-local Hong Kong carrier to offer this fantastic service.”
There is no fee associated with the service – it’s complimentary for Qantas customers using the Airport Express.
Airport Express services depart on average every 10 minutes and take 24 minutes from Hong Kong Station to Hong Kong Airport.
Last year, the airline celebrated 75 years since it first started operations in Hong Kong.
What started as a 20-hour route from Sydney to Hong Kong, is now nine-hour journey.
In 1949, fortnightly services began between the two cities with Douglas DC-4 Skymaster aircraft via Darwin and Labuan.
Today, Qantas has daily flights from Hong Kong to Sydney and Melbourne with Airbus A330 aircraft.
