Jetstar to recreate iconic ad from 20 years ago
Jetstar has some big news – it’s planning to remake its first ever TV ad that featured Magda Szubanski – but with a twist.
Jetstar is planning to remake its iconic first ever ad ‘Let’s Fly Jetstar’ that featured Magda Szubanski, ahead of the airline’s 20th anniversary in May.
The Aussie actress sadly won’t be making an appearance in the newly-created ad. Instead, the airline will feature real-life customer stories.
It is inviting passengers to submit their favourite Jetstar travel memories from the past two decades for a chance to feature as part of the campaign.
“We want our 20th year to be about celebrating everyone who has joined us on the journey over the past two decades,” Jetstar’s executive manager customer, Jenn Armor, told news.com.au.
“Since we introduced low-cost airfares in Australia, millions more people are able to fly around the country and overseas, with the majority of our fares being sold for under $100.
“Back when we launched, we had fares for $29 – and today, we still have fares for $29.
“What better way to mark our birthday than by telling the stories of all of the people who have made Jetstar what it is today.”
Since making the announcement on its Facebook page on Thursday, Aussies have inundated the comments section on the callout. Hundreds sent through their experiences which include doing pregnancy test and singalongs.
“I did a pregnancy test in the middle of a Jetstar flight. It was positive. we are still travelling with Jetstar 15 years later!” one woman’s application read.
“Christmas Eve 2018. Last flight of the day from Newcastle to Melbourne. Husband and kids had gone ahead to family Christmas but I was delayed by work. Uneventful flight and then as we are taxiing to the terminal one of the cabin crew makes an announcement and finishes with a pitch perfect rendition of All I want for Christmas is you. Whole plane was blown away,” read another.
Jetstar, which has so far received more than 200 stories, will select the best moments from the submissions and give the winners the opportunity to feature in a new ad, which will be filmed in April and released for Jetstar’s 20th birthday in May.
Since launching two decades ago, Jetstar has flown close to 400 million customers to 38 destinations across the Asia Pacific region.
