Jetstar has announced new route that’s a first in Australia
It’s the new flight path that will have wine lovers jumping for joy, especially because fares on this “Australian-first” route will start from just $135.
Wine lovers rejoice, because a new flight path has just launched in Australia — and it’ll take you straight to one of the best regions in the country, direct.
Budget airline Jetstar announced on Tuesday that in addition to direct flights from Melbourne to Busselton in Western Australia, Sydneysiders will now be able to jump on board the same direct route.
The airline announced the new route — the first ever service from Sydney to Busselton Margaret River — means travellers from the east coast can get to one of the most popular spots in the west before Easter.
The service, which will run three times per week, will offer more than 50,000 low-cost seats each year between Sydney and the world-renowned wine and surf region.
Currently, Jetstar is the only airline to offer direct commercial flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Busselton Margaret River.
The Melbourne route was first announced in 2019 to commence in March of 2020 but was delayed due to COVID-19.
Jetstar’s executive manager for customers Jenn Armor said the launch of the new route is a welcome addition to the airline service to the region.
“Close to two years ago Jetstar began flying from Melbourne to Busselton Margaret River
and following the success of those flights, which have carried over 100,000 passengers
so far, we’re excited to launch the only direct flights from Sydney to WA’s stunning South
West,” Ms Armor said in a statement.
“Holidaymakers from Sydney will be able to fly direct to Margaret River in about five hours … making the region far more accessible for domestic and international tourists from the harbour city.”
Busselton Jetty chief executive Lisa Shreeve told the ABC the route had Busselton locals “singing and dancing”.
“We’ve always known that Sydney’s a huge market for us. New South Wales is our number one interstate clientele, so it’s just great to get them here direct,” she said.
“This is going to open up all those international tourists who are over in Sydney, for the Sydney Opera House and those sort of things, so we’ll be able to get them over to WA, so that will be amazing.”
To launch the new service, Jetstar is having a 12-hour sale from 9am AEDT, with one-way fares between Sydney and Busselton Margaret River from only $135.
