How to get airline freebies if your luggage doesn’t show up within 20 minutes of landing
If you’ve ever been left standing around waiting for your bags to arrive following a flight, turns out you might be able to get a freebie for your time.
Frequent flyers know how annoying it is having to wait around for their luggage to appear after getting off a plane.
But one airline is offering passengers freebies if their luggage doesn’t show up within 20 minutes of them exiting the aircraft.
Delta Airlines provides all passengers with a guarantee that if their checked bag doesn’t arrive at the carousel in 20 minutes or less, they will receive 2500 bonus miles.
The miles can be put towards free awards such as airline tickets, business and first-class upgrades, as well as luxury products.
Passengers who use the US airline simply have to fill out a form within three days of their flight to claim the bonus, which is only available on domestic US flights.
Naam Wynn, a money expert who shares tips on social media, made a Tiktok video to reveal the advice.
In the video, he is talking to an airport worker.
Naam said: “Hi, I’ve been waiting for 30 minutes, but I haven’t seen my bag.”
The airport worker said: “Sorry to hear that, but we’re a little bit backed up. It should come soon.”
Naam said: “I know that Delta has a 20-minute bag guarantee. If it doesn’t arrive on time, I would get 2500 bonus points.
“The airport worker said: “Fine, just make sure you fill out this form.”
The video has been watched 1.2 million times and received nearly 100,000 likes from people who have used the tip.
One person wrote: “Did that before. I was at the carousel, 21 minutes hit, bag still not out, filled out the form, boom, sky miles minutes later.”
Another person commented: “Have probably gotten about 20,000 in free miles this last year because of their bag guarantee.
“I time them every time we arrive at the gate.”
A third person said that they try and work the system to guarantee they get free points.
They said: “If I have time, I’ll check my carry-on to airports where I know it always takes a while [to get luggage back] – I have gotten free flights worth of points from this!”
