Block winner Sara Vale ‘shocks’ fans with real job
Sara Vale is easily one of the most memorable contestants on The Block, but there’s one thing about her some people may not know about.
Sara Vale is easily one of The Block’s most memorable contestants having provided viewers with plenty of entertainment.
The 35-year-old and her husband Hayden went on to win the show in 2018, pocketing an impressive $645,000 after selling their apartment for $3,020,000 on auction day.
However, what many may not know, is that the mother-of-two is a flight attendant for a major airline – often leaving passengers shocked whenever they board one of her flights.
“I always get comments like, ‘I know you from somewhere’ or, ‘You look familiar’,” she told news.com.au.
“As I am boarding the aircraft there’s some that come up to me and ask to take photos – it’s usually fans of The Block.”
But, in the same respect, there’s many who recognise her from the reno show.
The Melburnian-born TV star said there was one instance when a crew member was left red-faced after some passengers had asked him a question.
Sara said her colleague only knew her from TikTok with her profile having recently blown up, attracting more than one million ‘likes’ on her hilarious clips.
“It was really funny actually,” she said. “He came up to me while I was serving and said ‘I just want to let you know some passengers want to take a photo with you.’
“He assumed it was because of my TikTok but when I went up to them, they said, ‘We loved you on The Block.’ So I brought over my colleague and he was so shocked. Everyone just started laughing.”
Sara has been a flight attendant for 15 years, but during the Covid pandemic she was laid off her job.
“It actually worked in my favour because I got to spend more time at home with the kids,” she said.
Sara and Hayden share daughter Harlow, 5 and Lawson, 3, and announced she was pregnant with Lawson in 2018 on the show.
The then Bondi couple had injected the $645,000 in prize money into building their dream home at Stanwell Park, a coastal village and northern suburb of Wollongong.
During lockdown, Hayden, who is in construction, spent time working on their new home which they moved into after eventually selling their Bondi pad.
In January 2021, Sara went back to work but it didn’t last long with the second wave of restrictions to hit.
“I went from doing one shift a day to it ramping up in March where it got so busy like Covid never happened,” she said.
“But when the second wave hit in September we got stood down again.”
Aviation resumed towards the end of the year and since then, Sara said it has been busier than ever.
“My roster has gone back to full-time which is 149 hours maximum a week.”
Sara said it was during the pandemic when she had down time at work that she jumped on the TikTok bandwagon.
“I was doing two overnight stays a couple times a week and because we couldn’t leave our hotel rooms I thought I’d whack out a couple of TikToks,” she said.
Sara centres the clips around her experiences as a flight attendant including some of the bizarre questions she gets asked.
If you’re wondering which airline her uniform is from in the videos, it’s not a real one. Sara pretends she works Oceanic Airlines – the name of a fictional airline used in several films.
As for the best thing about her job, Sara said it comes down to crew members and all the people she gets to meet.
