Blame it on the jet lag — when cabin crew stuff up

OH DEAR .... Being a flight attendant can be a tough gig and when you’re looking after hundreds of hungry passengers sometimes things go wrong.

ONCE a glamorous gig, the role of the flight attendant these days can be one hell of a job.

As passengers grapple with crowded airports, long lines, flight delays, overpriced food and last-minute gate changes, cabin crew are often the ones left to deal with flyers’ frustrations.

Flight attendants are essentially responsible for service, but they also have to deal with a growing number of safety issues, such as being on the lookout for potential terrorist activity.

But despite the negatives, the perks associated with being a flight attendant — travelling the world and staying in fancy hotels — has people still clamouring over one another to get in the air.

When US carrier Southwest Airlines put out a call for 750 flight attendants in 2013, more than 10,000 people submitted their CVs within two hours.

But for those lucky ones who do become cabin crew, the rigours of the job can become all too much — and they make mistakes. Here are some recent stuff ups by flight attendants - because they’re only human!

SNOOZING ON THE JOB

A video posted on Youtube by passenger Samir Nasr shows a flight attendant falling asleep while making an announcement on the plane’s intercom system. There’s speculation on social media that the flight attendant may have suffered a blood clot. His colleagues are saying that the flight attendant is doing well and is home after tests and a hospital stay.

FORGETTING TO DISARM THE PLANE DOORS

An anonymous flight attendant who uses the Twitter handle @Toughmutter has posted photos of a slide that inflated after crew forget to disarm the plane door before opening it.

It’s not the first time it’s happened — this photo from the Aviation Safety Network shows an emergency slide sticking out from the door of an Alaska Airlines plane.

And here is the same mistake made by US carrier United Airlines.

WHEN FLIGHT ATTENDANTS FORGET WHERE THEY ARE

Cabin crew can instantly make large groups of people anxious by welcoming them to the wrong city — for example, you’re headed to Sydney but upon landing the flight attendant incorrectly announces you’ve arrived in Melbourne. Twitter is littered with occasions where cabin crew have welcomed passengers to the wrong city.

AND IT’S NOT JUST FLIGHT ATTENDANTS THAT STUFF UP

A pair of Argentine pilots recently got fired after taking cabin selfies with a star in the cockpit of their passenger plane — while it was in mid-flight.

Curvaceous dancer and actor Vicky Xipolitakis posted photos on Twitter of her with both pilots.

The president of Aerolineas Argentinas, the country’s largest airline, said the pilots were fired immediately after the company became aware of the incident.
