There’s a new busiest airport in the world, and it’s not where you’d expect.

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has been named the world’s busiest international airport in the world for August, according to aviation data analysts OAG.

The airport’s massive boost was likely due to Europe opening up for its summer season, with travel-starved passengers jetsetting from country to country.

Coming in ahead of the previous number one – Dubai, OAG measures the winning airport as the ‘busiest’ by looking at the scheduled capacity in any given month.

So for the month of August, for example, Schiphol had a 2,511,321-seat capacity, while Dubai had 2,312,381 seats.

Despite coming out on top, the airport which actually saw the biggest increase in capacity was Turkey’s Antalya. The airport, which came in 10th for August, was up from 30 in August 2019.

“Antalya is a popular coastal resort in the south of Turkey and just over two-thirds of its international market comes from the Russian Federation and Germany,” OAG said in a statement.
