After travellers were warned of possible delays at Brisbane airport, as its automated baggage system suffered a significant IT glitch, the airport has since reported services are “flying well”.

The airport confirmed the mishap just before 7am on Monday, having reverted to manual baggage handling, and confirmed at around 1pm that no flights had been cancelled.

“We had a handful of minor delays,” Brisbane Airport Company spokesperson Stephen Beckett told NCA NewsWire.

The airport “called in extra people” to assist with baggage processing while technicians worked to fix the issue.

The glitch was contained to the system serving only Jetstar, Rex, Link Airways and Aerlink at the domestic terminal.

Baggage was manually processed, allowing flights to get on their way, according to Mr Beckett.

“The system was operating but not sorting well,” he said.

“For the vast majority of passengers passing through Brisbane airport this morning it has been business as usual.

“Our IT team have now identified the issue and have put in place a workaround which should see minimal issues throughout the morning.

“Passenger queues have now been cleared.

“We also activated our CARE team in case the problem was greater and thankfully they weren’t needed.”

Brisbane Airport Corporation apologised for any inconvenience it had caused travellers.

The airport has advised travellers to monitor airline websites to track any flight updates.
