Inside Elvis Presley’s private jet that’s up for sale

It’s no surprise Elvis Presley travelled in style with his own private jet that featured a red velvet interior – and now it’s up for sale.

Bendigo Art Gallery's Elvis exhibit attracts more than 200,000 fans

Owning a private jet is often seen as the ultimate status symbol for celebrities.

You have Taylor Swift with her Saddault Falcon, Kim Kardashian with her $150 million Kim Air jet and Formula 1 world champ Max Verstappen owning a Falcon 900 EX.

So, it comes as no surprise that the “King Of Rock and Roll” Elvis Presley also travelled around in his own luxurious, private jet — or should we say jets, as he had three.

The singer and actor’s “Lisa Marie” and “Hound Dog II” are currently up for display in the Graceland Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, which leaves his precious JetStar.

The 1962 Lockheed JetStar L-1329 was the last aircraft he purchased in 1976, just one year before his death.

It was reportedly extra special to him as he split the plane with his father, Vernon Presley.

The jet is the only one in his fleet to be privately owned. The fan aged in his 80s who currently owns and wants to sell it, also wants to see it restored, says GWS Auctions, the company facilitating the sale.

It can comfortably seat eight passengers and features red velvet interiors with wood panelling and a shag carpet in the main cab.

However, it is a little worse for wear after having spent many years sitting idly in a desert in Roswell, New Mexico.

The plane has also been stripped of its engines, and the cockpit has most components missing, so it can’t be flown.

Sadly, the outside has also caught layers of rust, hiding its previous life of luxury.

But it has remained a huge tourist attraction at the airport in Roswell and despite its rather worn look, it has been popular over the past few years.

It was privately owned for 35 years — and in 2017, it sold for $US430,000 ($660,000), just short of its expected million-dollar estimate.

It went to auction again in 2018, but bidding reportedly opened lower than many had expected.

According to Simple Flying, many have noted that restoring this aircraft to flying condition, or refurbishing it, could attract millions in visitations and attraction fees.

As of August this year, bidding for the jet went live again, along with a range of Elvis memorabilia.

However, according to the publication there hasn’t been any official bids. But the listing on the auction page has been viewed more than 5974 times.

According to the listing, the jet would have to be disassembled in order to be shipped.

“Our auction firm will play an assistive role in facilitating shipping at the winning bidder’s expense, as we have already received several quotes,” the listing reads.

“The winning bidder will receive a letter of ownership from the previous owner, the FAA documents, a letter from Priscilla Presley and a letter of ownership from the current owner.”

Priscilla’s letter reads: “This is a very significant piece of history as it was the only jet Elvis bought with his father. Elvis always wished to support his father’s entrepreneurial endeavours, especially after losing his mother so early. Elvis loved and respected his father very much and this jet is a piece of him and his father’s heart.”

The listing also explains the winning bidder will receive FAA Blue Ribbon Certified True Copy of the FAA Documents of the aircraft’s history.

“The documents include copies of the Bill of Sale in Elvis Presley’s name, Aircraft Registration Application in Elvis’ name signed by Vernon as his power of attorney, Aircraft Security Agreement (mortgage) in Elvis’ name signed by both Elvis and Vernon Presley, and other various documentation regarding updates to equipment and sales,” it states.
