THIS endearingly ridiculous advert for a small-town travel agent has gone viral, after the amateur TV stars posted it on social media.

THIS endearingly ridiculous advert for a small-town travel agent has gone viral after it was posted on social media.

The ambitious video for Thorne Travel features a 1000-strong flash mob, somersaulting staff, ticker tape and a cast of awkward-looking locals from Kilwinning, Scotland.

The hilarious ad centres on a gang of female staff stalking the streets in pink and black uniforms to a pumping dance track.

They are initially accompanied by a man wearing a black shirt and pink tie, who quickly peels off to hand a “Sail Away” brochure to a suitably thrilled elderly couple sat on a bench.

A dodgy-looking chap in a too-big captain’s outfit and sunnies then ambles over to give them an frantic handshake.

Before you even have time to think “that was odd”, a quick pirouette and a shower of stars gives way to a dancing flash mob.

Another spin and scattering of magical stars turns a loitering girl into a bride — what can’t this travel agent achieve?

A sudden switch to a sinister black-and-white scene shows exactly what, with a mournful child who has dropped her Mickey Mouse toy getting a conciliatory hug from the real, giant-sized Mickey (and presumably a trip to Disneyland).

Then it’s back to the flash mob, with an impressive somersault rounding off the stellar show for a passing couple, who observe: “Looks like we need to get ourselves a new travel agent.”

The advert has been labelled “outstanding” and “genius” after it was posted on YouTube.

It has already received more than 600,000 views, with the hashtag #thornetravel trending on Twitter.

“This commercial makes no sense. I love it,” wrote one Twitter user, while Facebook users praised the “Thornettes” for “putting Kilwinning on the map” and giving Virgin’s flight attendants a run for their money.

Owner Shona Thorne, who blew her year’s marketing budget on the video, told TTG Digital: “It started off as a wee small video, but now it’s an all-singing, all-dancing proper advert, about us, our town and how it has supported us.

“We’re known locally as the pink ladies, because of our pink uniforms.

“People think agents are dead, but we’re alive and thriving and our video shows that.”
