Dangling man surprises tourists
THESE daredevil risk-takers were seeking the perfect holiday snap. But they got a whole lot more than they bargained for when they spotted this guy.
THESE daredevil risk takers played good Samaritan when they helped a man dicing with death while hanging from a rock in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The men were trying to capture the perfect picture on the top of Pedra da Gávea when a fellow risk taker came into their shot and started hanging from the rock.
Taken by Alencar Amaral, a professional climber, he said: “The day was perfect for us, a lot of sunlight where we could clearly see the Bairro de São Conrado down below us.
“The intention was to take a picture with all the optical illusions around, but it was difficult to do due to the risk of being very high from the ground where the photographer takes the pictures.”
Then, they spotted something unusual.
“I was preparing to take a picture of two of my friends, and was telling them where to position themselves, when another man comes in and hang(s) himself to the rock for the picture,” he said.
“In the end he was struggling to get back up, but luckily nothing major happened as my friends jumped in to help him out.”
TOURISTS DICING WITH DEATH
Risk-taking travellers continue to put their lives in danger to snap amazing holiday photos. It’s a growing problem in Australia, with hundreds of tourists flocking to the edge of the famous Wedding Cake Rock in NSW.
The insta-famous rock formation, named for its white colour and flat, layered surface, despite the threat of an imminent collapse and large cracks visible on the surface.
They often pose on the ledge — or even hang over the side.
That’s despite warning signs and the risk of a $300 fine. And the fact deaths have occurred at the site.
