There is an island in the Caribbean where you can swim with flamingoes

IF you’ve been seeing these images of flamingoes on social media, they are not photoshopped. There is an island where you can swim with them.

SWIMMING with pigs is so last season.

Remember when your social media feed was swamped with pictures of people swimming with pigs in the Bahamas? Well, be prepared for a new animal to be clogging your Instagram feed because you can now swim with flamingoes in the Caribbean.

The majestic florescent birds live on a private island just off Aruba, owned by luxury hotel, Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino, about a 10-minute water taxi ride away from the main island.

And Caribbean travellers have been making the trip over to Flamingo Beach on Renaissance Island in droves to get a pink flamingo selfie.

However, there seems to be a dark side to this seemingly magical island. Unlike wild flamingoes, these flamingoes don’t migrate and stay on Renaissance Island all year round. American flamingoes are known to migrate when there are changes in weather and water levels.

According to TripAdvisor, some holiday-makers have claimed that the flamingoes at this particular hotel have had their wings clipped to stop them from flying away. This claim hasn’t been addressed by the hotel yet.
